Spanish Trail Real Estate

Spanish Trail is an exclusive community in Southwest Las Vegas near Rainbow and Tropicana. When it was first built in 1984, there was nothing but desert in the area, and the community was a true oasis in the middle of it. Its 1980s and ’90s-era Mediterranean homes recall classic Vegas, and it continues to lure homeowners with its central location, security, and luxuriously spacious lots.

“Behold, the Mojave Desert,” joked Spanish Trail Country Club marketing director Jeff Drothler one time as he pointed out the lush grass and ponds inhabited by waterfowl with mountains in the background. His point was that the 640-acre gated Spanish Trail community doesn’t feel like the desert, or Las Vegas, at all.

This community has been home to local professionals, golf enthusiasts and celebrities, including tennis pro Andre Agassi, magician Siegfried Fischbacher of Siegfried & Roy, and the royal family of Brunei. Large custom estates are interspersed with affordable townhomes so nearly anyone can get access to this exclusive neighborhood with wide streets and private amenities.

There are 12 neighborhoods with their own homeowners’ associations, and all of them share the tennis courts, fitness centers and swimming pools at the country club. The community has custom-built mansions as well as semicustom single-family homes ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet. A lack of design restrictions means there are a range of architectural styles here, each reflecting the personality of its residents. Often people love the community so much that even when ready to upgrade or downsize their home, they stay within Spanish Trails.

Inventory is low here, and well-priced homes tend to move within weeks. The single-story models favored by seniors go even faster. The beauty of buying a slightly older model home is that you get large yards and mature trees rarely included in newer homes, with the ability to update or renovate your home, and most of all, amazing views.

You’ll also find a small-town camaraderie with neighbors which makes a community like this feel like living in a movie. In addition, security vehicles patrol the community 24/7 and each home has an alarm system monitored at the main gate. These features make the community popular with snow birds who can rest assured that their homes are safe while left unattended for months at a time.

Spanish Trail Amenities

The Spanish Trail community is home to the Spanish Trail Country Club, which hosted the PGA Tour’s Las Vegas Invitational in the mid-1980s. This event brought credibility to the 27- hole, all-grass golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The club’s exclusivity gave it a certain mystique which led to it meeting its 10-year goal of attracting 600 members in just five years.

The Spanish Trail Country Club has three separate nine-hole golf courses:

  • The Sunrise Course is the most traditional and straightforward but it also features one of the PGA Tour’s most challenging Par 3 holes, as ranked during the PGA Las Vegas invitational that the Spanish Trail Country Club has hosted five times. The most desirable tee time is early enough to watch the Las Vegas sunrise, which inspires the name Sunrise Course.
  • The Lakes Course is the most difficult and has water features on six of the nine holes, including lakes, creeks and waterfalls. The rolling fairways also offer challenges, with hardly any flat land. The beautiful and scenic hole #3 is Spanish Trail Country Club’s signature Par 3, and the course overall is designed for enjoyment.
  • The Canyon Course is the longest of the three courses, and a sentimental favorite of most members. You can enjoy breathtaking views of the Spring Mountain Range as you play beside a gorgeous lake and waterfall next to the green. The finishing stretch tests even the best golfer as the elevated green is protected by deep bunkers.

The clubhouse also hosts weddings and events, with a private club ambience and intimate dining options. In addition, there’s an active card-playing membership available with both Men’s and Ladies’ card rooms.

Once an out-of-the-way location at the outskirts of town, Spanish Trails is now considered very convenient. The city has grown around it, and it has countless amenities nearby, including shopping plazas with grocery store and dining options. Located in the heart of Spring Valley, other amenities near the community include the Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center, Spanish Hills Wellness Suites, and Chinatown. It’s also just a few minutes from the airport or the world-famous Las Vegas Strip.

There hasn’t been a community like Spanish Trail built in a long time, and chances are there won’t ever be again. If you want a unique, classic home with a legacy, be sure to check it out on your next house search.
