Northwest Las Vegas has continued to be one of the most popular and fastest-growing residential areas in the valley. And one of the best parts of Northwest Las Vegas, if you like nature and parks, is Cliff Shadows. Located on the western edge of the city, where beautifully quiet neighborhoods meet the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Cliff Shadows is a jewel surrounded by lush parkland.

The residences here have an air of modern style based on traditional Tuscan architecture. Whether single family dwelling or semi-detached townhouse, these homes boast the showstopping quality Las Vegas is known for, juxtaposed against a beautiful natural mountain setting.

This area gives you breathtaking views of the Las Vegas Strip so you can feel connected to a world-class city while at the same time being removed from the hustle and bustle, just minutes from several recreational choices.

Northwest Las Vegas Amenities

Cliff Shadows Parkway runs along the edge of Red Rock Canyon, and has several parks. At the south end of the community is Buckskin Cliff Shadows Park, and in the center you’ll find Cliff Shadows Open Desert Park and the brand new Trigono Hills Park. “Trigono” means triangle in Greek, and this triangular park is 7.3 acres with an interpretive garden, picnic area, natural grass play areas, shaded playgrounds for kids of different ages, and lighted walking paths.

Just beyond these parks is the clean and quiet Reverence Park, with hiking, rock climbing, playgrounds for the kids, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts.

At the northern end of the Cliff Shadows community is the 5-acre Skyridge Park, which features large areas of open green space and a circular path for walking and jogging.

On the other side of the I-215 freeway, heading east toward the city, is another impressive selection of parks. Here you’ll find the Lone Mountain Trailhead leading to the Lone Mountain Peak. At the foot of the hill to the north is Lone Mountain Regional Park, a large natural area with walking trails, picnic pavilions, playgrounds and an equestrian center. Just south of that is the slightly smaller Lone Mountain Park featuring plenty of green space, a roller hockey rink, basketball and tennis courts, plus picnic areas and playground.

South of Lone Mountain is the huge Majestic Park with multiple softball fields that play host to local tournaments. It also has playgrounds, picnic areas and plenty of open space.

Adjacent to this park, just to the south, is the Police Memorial Park featuring a tree grove, memorial wall and sculpture to pay tribute to fallen officers in the Las Vegas community. A favorite location for special events, Police Memorial Park has a skate park, playgrounds, dog park with three dog runs, picnic areas, walking path, basketball court and four pickleball courts.

The NW Las Vegas community is also home to Floyd Lamb Park, an impressive 2,040-acre park centered on Tule Springs, a series of small natural lakes that formed a true oasis in this part of the Mojave Desert.

Floyd Lamb Park is home to wildlife, lush vegetation, lakes and inspiring views of the Sheep and Spring Mountain Ranges. The park also contains the Nevada Division of Forestry State Tree Nursery and the historic Tule Springs Ranch, which showcases the lifestyle and mechanics of a traditional working ranch in early Las Vegas.

A number of programs are available here, from self-guided tours to facilities for birthday parties and special events. Amenities include picnic areas, historic areas, walking and jogging paths, a hay barn, mountain bike trails and a pump track for BMX bike riders. If you have a license from the Nevada Department of Wildlife, you can even go fishing.

For a slightly more intimate outdoor experience, Centennial Hills Park is just south of Floyd Lamb. This still sizeable 120-acre local park offers a selection of playgrounds, dog runs, picnic areas, volleyball, soccer, walking trails and more. If even that’s too big for your current mood, the community is filled with a plethora of smaller neighborhood parks and green belts as well.

The Clark County Shooting Complex is also in NW Las Vegas. This 5-star outdoor shooting facility is the largest in the United States at an incredible 2,900 acres. Special events are hosted at the Shotgun Center throughout the year, including tournaments, matches, classes and discounted promotional opportunities.

Natural Outdoor Treasures

If you’re a nature enthusiast and parks aren’t enough, the neighboring Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area gives you plenty of hiking and exploring opportunities in a gorgeous setting. Or take a drive northeast to The Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada’s first state park.

If boating, fishing, swimming or water skiing is more your speed, Lake Mead National Recreation Area is about an hour to the east and easily accessible from the freeway. But if you prefer snow over water, Mount Charleston and Lee Canyon offer skiing and sledding opportunities practically in your own back yard.

Golf Opportunities for Every Skill Level

Let’s not stop there. If you’re a golfer, you’re in luck. Just across the street from Cliff Shadows is Sun City Summerlin, home to three impressive 18-hole golf courses. Choose from the Highland Falls Golf Club with challenging elevation changes and strategic bunkers; the championship-level executive Eagle Crest Golf Course, carved out of a mountain and boasting some of the highest elevations in the city; or the pine tree adorned Palm Valley Golf Course, Golf Summerlin’s longest and most challenging offering.

Just a little further away is the desert-style Durango Hills Golf Club, a treasured executive-length course that features undulating greens and mountain views. The PGA Tour’s Tournament Players Club (TPC) Summerlin spans over four miles of manicured green fairways. And across the street from TPC Summerlin is the picturesque and contemporary Angel Park Golf Club.

But that’s not all. One of the most majestic golf clubs in the area, the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, is at the far northwest corner of the valley, and features three distinctive layouts designed by World Golf Hall of Fame Inductee and Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient, Pete Dye. Each of the three options — Snow Mountain, Sun Mountain and WOLF — are infused with Dye’s signature elements, such as dramatic slope changes and railroad tie bunkers, to make sure each course gives the player a unique experience.

The facility also boasts gorgeous event venues with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, strategically positioned against the backdrop of lush greens and sparkling lakes. From weddings to corporate retreats and casual festivities, Paiute promises a first-class experience.

Cliff Shadows Shopping and Dining

Being close to amazing recreational options doesn’t mean there’s a shortage of other amenities, like shopping and dining. In fact, the proximity to Summerlin means you have easy and convenient access to every major retailer in clean, upscale shopping plazas with manicured palm trees and sculpted landscaping.

Don’t miss Tivoli Village, Boca Park and Downtown Summerlin outdoor shopping centers, each with its own beauty and charm not often found in retail areas. There’s also a popular shopping plaza right across from Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa, featuring big box retailers like Costco, Best Buy and Lowe’s.

Summerlin is home to some of the best dining in Las Vegas as well, from the high class offerings at Red Rock Casino to countless other specialty restaurants that residents consider must-try destination locations.

Cliff Shadows Schooling

High-quality educational options are also plentiful in this northwest community. CCSD’s Eileen Conners Elementary School is in the neighborhood, as well as the private Challenger School Summerlin. Not too much farther you’ll find other private school options, like Adelson Educational Campus and The Meadows School.

The CCSD junior high is Justice Myron E Leavitt Middle School and the secondary school is Centennial High School.

So while the Las Vegas Valley gives you lots of options when it comes to beautiful homes and enviable lifestyles, Cliff Shadows is a little-known gem right on the edge of it all. With a perfect mix of city and nature, connectedness and privacy, this is one of the newer areas that deserves a second look.
